Gifts for Him - 2020
Last year, I said that I found shopping for the men in my life to be tough. However, this year, I feel like I've hit my stride again and come up with some really fun ideas!
I've decided that 2020 is the year to not overthink your gifts. Just keep it simple! And, with my Christmas shopping this year, I've also really tried to apply the concept of, "less is more." Before, I've worried sometimes that one gift is not enough and/or I try to come up with something really extravagant for each person on my list. But, this year, when physically being together with family for the holidays is not guaranteed, gifts should be the least of our worries.

Like I've said before, my gift guide for women is always the easiest to create because I just think of things I already have and love OR of things that I'd love to have gifted to me.

Gift Guide for Kids - 2020
It's that time again!! Haul out the holly, and buckle up, because it's gift guide season! And, to kick it all off, I'm sharing some of my favorite gift ideas for kids. Now, this gift guide has a broad range of gift ideas for children of all ages. Be sure to check out my Gifts for Kids tab on the blog to get even more ideas.
If you're like me, you have children of many ages in your circle that you're buying for. This year, I'm planning on giving gifts to kiddos ranging from age 1 to 21 (ok, so 21 is an adult, but I still view her as my baby cousin). Like I said last year, it can be challenging to find the perfect gift for someone who (1) is in a completely different life stage than you and (2) isn't even your own kid. I still stand by the ideas that gift cards never hurt anyone, toys without batteries get you brownie points with parents, and gifts for infants should actually be gifts for the parents. However, a new tip I've learned in the last year is the Four Gift Rule.
My sister has two children now, and on her first Christmas as a mother she realized just how overwhelming the pressures of giving your kids the "best Christmas ever" each and every year can be. She read about the Four Gift Rule which suggests giving your kids something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read, and it's really helped guide her shopping these last few years. Now, as the self proclaimed "cool aunt," I sometimes have to stop myself from buying my nieces and nephews excessive amounts of gifts. So, I try to just pick out one or two items and make sure they fit into one of those Four Gift categories. However, most of my gifts usually fit into the "something they want" category because, again, I'm the cool aunt. 😎

Mother's Day Gift Ideas
Times are really weird right now. COVID-19 is really putting a damper on all the fun things Spring usually brings: Easter, bridal showers, weddings, etc. So, I haven't been sharing very many fun outfits with you all, and there's really two reasons for that.
1. I've been wearing sweats for 55 days straight.
2. I honestly don't have the money to shop right now.
But, when I looked at the calendar today and realized that Mother's Day is only 2 weeks away, I was inspired to browse a little bit. This year, more than ever, I want my own mom and sister to know what great mothers they are. This has been a tough year for them both, and I want them to feel loved (even if I have to leave their gifts in the mailbox and watch them open it from 6 feet away).

Galentine's Day with Pink Lily
Say what you will about Valentine's Day being invented by the candy companies, but I LOVE IT! I've always been a sucker for cutesy gifts and romantic gestures, so Valentine's Day is right up my alley.
And even more so than Valentine's Day, I love GALENTINE'S DAY!

If you're not familiar, Galentine's Day is a holiday made up by Leslie Knope (not a real person) on Parks and Rec (TV show that you must watch). It's usually celebrated on February 13th and spent with all of your best gal pals. I don't know about you, but I've honestly always gotten WAY better Valentine treats from the women in my life than I have from any men - nothing surprising there. I specifically remember a year in college when I and most of my roomies were single. We got each other more gifts - cards, flowers, dinner at The Cheesecake Factory - that year than any of our coupled friends got, and I enjoyed every second of it. Until I almost threw up from eating too many chocolates...

Christmas may be coming, but it's also graduation time for many people out there! I've had a few people ask me for gift ideas for nurses in the past. All the new graduates that will be hitting hospitals soon, not to mention the holiday season, got me thinking about some of the things that I consider nurse necessities! Each one of these items would make a great gift for a nurse (or any healthcare professional) in your life, and I guarantee it won't just collect dust!

Personalized Water Bottle - Because sometimes I'll go an entire 12 hour shift without a single drop of water. 😳
Inspirational Bracelet - Inspirational, but honest. The characteristics of a great nurse.
Donut Compression Sleeves - Compression sleeves or socks will change. your. life. Wear them always, and thank me later.
Monogrammed Sweatshirt - For the units that are freezing.

Scrub Jacket - A friend hand stitched my name on a scrub jacket when I graduated nursing school, and I still wear that jacket every week! 💗

Last Minute Gift Ideas
Ideally, I like to have most of my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. However, I'll be the first to admit that I rarely achieve that goal. I did get most of my major shopping done early this year, but I just can't stop buying last minute gifts! I think I get this from my dad (who's known to go out on Christmas Eve and buy all sorts of random goodies).

As I stated in last year's Stocking Stuffers post, my mom always filled (and continues to fill) our stockings with awesome stuff. I always considered filling stockings such a mom thing to do (meaning you only do it for kids), so for the first few years of our marriage, Greg and I merely hung stockings in our house for decoration.

Buying gifts for the women in my life has always been the easiest and most enjoyable for me. I just pick things that I either have and love or that I would love to receive as a gift myself. Another trick is if I see something throughout the year that reminds me of a friend or loved one, I buy it on the spot and save it for the holidays (sometimes I can't wait, thougt, and give it to them right away...gift giving is definitely one of my top love languages).

If you're a parent you probably already know what your children want for Christmas. If your kids are anything like I was growing up, they've already got a Christmas list a mile long (written in red and green gel pen).
But, on the other hand, if you're also like me in that you don't have any kids of your own, buying gifts for the children in your life can be tricky. I, for one, want to be the "cool aunt" and get them everything their heart desires, but I know most parents don't want a house full of CRAP after the holiday season. And, I'm generally out of touch with what the kids are into these days as far as pop culture, so buying 18 different Frozen castles for them doesn't appeal to me. I generally try to stick with something that both the kids and the parents will appreciate.
Below are just a few gift ideas for the younger children in your life. I gravitate towards feminine gifts because 1. I like girls more (can I say that out loud?) and 2. there's simply more girls in my family, so sorry if this gift guide doesn't balance out super well.
1. Light Up Scooter - Because this generation of children needs to know what being chopped in the ankles by one of these bad boys feels like. / 2. Baby Scarf / 3. Baby Shark Towel Set / 4. A few more tips if you're still struggling to come up with something:
1. Books seem boring, but lots of parents like when their kids get something other than toys.
2. For those awkward pre-teen years, a gift card never killed anybody.
3. Things that are mess free get you gold stars with the parents (so if you don't like the parents get the messiest thing you can find!).
4. I've straight up given a Walmart gift card as a gift to an infant before because let's be honest, the baby isn't going to remember getting a gift, and the parents truly need things like diapers, formula, and more sleep.

I don't know what it is about Valentine's Day, but even the years that I celebrated it as a single gal, I still loved this holiday!
I honestly think it's just all the novelty gifts that you can get at drugstores and stuff.😂
And the chocolate.
Or maybe it's because it's a fun little thing to look forward to in the middle of the most dreadful season of the year. I mean, everybody knows that after Christmas, winter just sucks.
