Gifts for Him - 2020

Friday, November 20, 2020

Last year, I said that I found shopping for the men in my life to be tough. However, this year, I feel like I've hit my stride again and come up with some really fun ideas!

I've decided that 2020 is the year to not overthink your gifts. Just keep it simple! And, with my Christmas shopping this year, I've also really tried to apply the concept of, "less is more." Before, I've worried sometimes that one gift is not enough and/or I try to come up with something really extravagant for each person on my list. But, this year, when physically being together with family for the holidays is not guaranteed, gifts should be the least of our worries.

Anyway, keep scrolling to see some of the gift ideas for men I've rounded up this year. And as always, be sure to check out my Gifts for Him tab on the blog for even more options.

Gifts for Her - 2020

Sunday, November 15, 2020

Where all my jingle ladies at?!?!

Today, I'm sharing some of my favorite gift ideas for all the gal pals in your life. For even more ideas, be sure to check out the Gifts for Her tab on the blog as well as some of my gift guides from previous years here and here.

Photo from my girls' trip to NYC a few Christmases ago. I loved every second and can't wait to go back!

Like I've said before, my gift guide for women is always the easiest to create because I just think of things I already have and love OR of things that I'd love to have gifted to me.

And one other special gift giving tip for 2020: you absolutely can't go wrong with loungewear or pajamas. 😂 Keep scrolling to check out what I've rounded up this year.

Happy shopping!

Gift Guide for Kids - 2020

Wednesday, November 11, 2020

It's that time again!! Haul out the holly, and buckle up, because it's gift guide season! And, to kick it all off, I'm sharing some of my favorite gift ideas for kids. Now, this gift guide has a broad range of gift ideas for children of all ages. Be sure to check out my Gifts for Kids tab on the blog to get even more ideas.

If you're like me, you have children of many ages in your circle that you're buying for. This year, I'm planning on giving gifts to kiddos ranging from age 1 to 21 (ok, so 21 is an adult, but I still view her as my baby cousin). Like I said last year, it can be challenging to find the perfect gift for someone who (1) is in a completely different life stage than you and (2) isn't even your own kid. I still stand by the ideas that gift cards never hurt anyone, toys without batteries get you brownie points with parents, and gifts for infants should actually be gifts for the parents. However,  a new tip I've learned in the last year is the Four Gift Rule.

My sister has two children now, and on her first Christmas as a mother she realized just how overwhelming the pressures of giving your kids the "best Christmas ever" each and every year can be. She read about the Four Gift Rule which suggests giving your kids something they want, something they need, something to wear, and something to read, and it's really helped guide her shopping these last few years. Now, as the self proclaimed "cool aunt," I sometimes have to stop myself from buying my nieces and nephews excessive amounts of gifts. So, I try to just pick out one or two items and make sure they fit into one of those Four Gift categories. However, most of my gifts usually fit into the "something they want" category because, again, I'm the cool aunt. 😎

It was found in debris from the tornado this Spring! 👏👏👏

Happy shopping!

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

Sunday, November 8, 2020

It it not lost on me that the holidays this year may look different or even be completely non-existent for some. My family is still hoping to have a small get together for Thanksgiving, but of course, that could quickly change in the next few weeks. In years past, I've usually dressed up for Thanksgiving, but honestly, my standards have gotten lower and lower with each month of 2020 that passes. 😂 So there's no telling what I'll show up wearing this year.

This dress comes in a ton of colors and would be a great holiday option!

No matter what kind of Thanksgiving you're having this year, these four looks are guaranteed to keep you cozy and comfy while you stuff your face. Keep scrolling to check them out!

Easy Halloween Costumes

Sunday, October 11, 2020

I've always enjoyed dressing up in fun Halloween costumes. When I was a kid, I would plan my costumes months in advance. Some of my most memorable Halloween costumes were Disney's Esmerelda (I think I was 5, and I was OBSESSED), an 80's Valley Girl (I was in high school and my girlfriends and I nailed the looks), and when my sister and I dressed up as Sonny and Cher (guess who was Sonny #bowlcut).

Not sure what your Halloween plans entail this year, but who says you can't dress up even if you're just partying at home. I've rounded up some simple costumes that are easy to throw together and won't cost you a lot of time or money. In fact, you may even have some of these pieces in your closet already!

Keep scrolling to check them out and maybe even see some spooky photos from Halloweens past! 😂

Hope you've enjoyed this little Halloween walk down memory lane! I love to go all out with a solid costume, but I also sort of love the challenge of making a costume out of pieces I already have. Bonus points if I can make it a couples thing and force Greg to participate!

Hope you guys have something festive and safe planned for Halloween. Send me all of your best costume ideas.

XOXO,
Abby

Galentine's Day with Pink Lily

Saturday, February 1, 2020

Say what you will about Valentine's Day being invented by the candy companies, but I LOVE IT! I've always been a sucker for cutesy gifts and romantic gestures, so Valentine's Day is right up my alley.
And even more so than Valentine's Day, I love GALENTINE'S DAY!

via GIPHY

If you're not familiar, Galentine's Day is a holiday made up by Leslie Knope (not a real person) on Parks and Rec (TV show that you must watch). It's usually celebrated on February 13th and spent with all of your best gal pals. I don't know about you, but I've honestly always gotten WAY better Valentine treats from the women in my life than I have from any men - nothing surprising there. I specifically remember a year in college when I and most of my roomies were single. We got each other more gifts - cards, flowers, dinner at The Cheesecake Factory - that year than any of our coupled friends got, and I enjoyed every second of it. Until I almost threw up from eating too many chocolates...

Today, I'm partnering with The Pink Lily Boutique to share two cute and casual looks that would be perfect for a Galentine's Day date. And I'll also give you some fun ideas on ways to spend G-Day with your BFFs!

Tee / Similar Cardigan / Similar Jeans / Similar Booties

Sweater / Similar Jeans / Similar Hat / Similar Booties

13 Galentine's Day Ideas:

1. Head to brunch...preferably somewhere with bottomless Mimosas, obvi!
2. Get massages! I've been dying to go to this spa in Nashville, but Greg will never go. Where my Galentines at???
3. Mani/Pedi's
4. Grab coffee and then go shopping
5. Take a day trip somewhere new
6. Send flowers
7. Pizza and Rom Com Night
8. Get blowouts and hit up happy hour
9. Go to a workout class together and dinner afterwards
10. Get tickets to a concert
11. Visit a winery
12. Catch the latest chick flick at the movies (and share a vat of popcorn)
13. ALL OF THE ABOVE?!?

fun galentine gift ideas

Do you and your girlfriends do anything special for Valentine's Day? Maybe this could be the year to start! It doesn't have to be anything extreme. Just let your besties know you're thinking about them! Hope you have a sweet little holiday, no matter how you celebrate it!

XOXO,
Abby

What to Wear to a NYE Party!

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

I've always had such dreams of attending a fancy New Year's Eve soirée, but alas, I never really have. Most of my NYE's past have either been spent at a casual event with friends or better yet, in my pajamas on the couch (which honestly sounds like the best way to celebrate amirite?).

So no matter what your plans are this year, I've rounded up 4 looks that will hopefully inspire an outfit for however you're ringing in the new decade!

Keep scrolling!

Last year, we went to a 90s cover band concert in Nashville and then had breakfast at Monell's after midnight. The year before that, Greg and I got in the worst fight we've ever been in 😂 (story for another day), and the year before THAT, we had a pajama party at our house.
All of the NYEs before that are a bit of a blur, but I know they've always been spent surrounded by friends and family.

I can't remember how I rang in 2010, the first year of this decade. But I'm excited to start the new one, even if it's on the couch in my jams. Maybe it's the fact that I'm in my late 20s, but starting a whole new decade seems to carry a lot more weight than it did in 2010.

Praying for a prosperous and blessing-filled decade, for myself, and for each and every one of you! Can't wait to see where we're all at this time in 2029!

XOXO,
Abby

Gift Guides Holidays Work Wear

Gifts for Nurses

Tuesday, December 17, 2019

Christmas may be coming, but it's also graduation time for many people out there! I've had a few people ask me for gift ideas for nurses in the past. All the new graduates that will be hitting hospitals soon, not to mention the holiday season, got me thinking about some of the things that I consider nurse necessities! Each one of these items would make a great gift for a nurse (or any healthcare professional) in your life, and I guarantee it won't just collect dust!

Keep scrolling to check them all out!

Personalized Water Bottle - Because sometimes I'll go an entire 12 hour shift without a single drop of water. 😳
Inspirational Bracelet - Inspirational, but honest. The characteristics of a great nurse.
Donut Compression Sleeves - Compression sleeves or socks will change. your. life. Wear them always, and thank me later.
Monogrammed Sweatshirt - For the units that are freezing.
Yeti Tumbler - Sometimes you only get to drink your coffee in spurts. Best to have a mug that keeps it warm for HOURS.
Nurse Humor Socks - For when the mood on the floor needs to be lightened.
Healing Hand Lotion - Nothing worse than dry hands, especially in the winter. Hand lotions are always appreciated by nurses.
Syringe Earrings & Pill Earrings - Scrubs are comfy, but they are BORING, and you gotta spice them up however you can!
Bandaid Badge Reel & Chill Pill Badge Reel - Again with the scrub spicing.
Set of Compression Socks - You can never have too many!
Witty Wine Glass - Because we all have THOSE days.
Ink Pens here & here - Quality pens are a luxury and must be treated as such. Consider gifting a label maker as well so the pens can't be stolen! 😂
Lunch Tote Set - The bigger the better. You never know how long you're going to be at a the hospital, and you don't want to get stuck there without a snack!
Scrub Jacket - A friend hand stitched my name on a scrub jacket when I graduated nursing school, and I still wear that jacket every week! 💗

For those of you shopping for a new or experienced nurse in your life, I hope this gives a little insight!

Nurses and health care friends, what are some things you can't live without at work? What are some of the best gifts you've ever received? Let me know in the comments section below!

Last Minute Gift Ideas

Thursday, December 12, 2019

Ideally, I like to have most of my Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving. However, I'll be the first to admit that I rarely achieve that goal. I did get most of my major shopping done early this year, but I just can't stop buying last minute gifts! I think I get this from my dad (who's known to go out on Christmas Eve and buy all sorts of random goodies).

So if you're like me and still have a few more things on your list, consider these "last minute" gift ideas! They should all be eligible for 2-day shipping and will most definitely be here before Christmas with time to spare for wrapping!

Toilet Light / Felt Hat / Amazon Echo Dot / CZ Tennis Bracelet / Breakfast Sandwich Maker / Bose SoundLink portable speaker / Turntable / Men's eVest / Golden Goose Dupe Sneakers / Star Wars Cuff Links / SodaStream Sparkling Water Maker  / Pour Over Coffee Maker / Canvas Backpack / Pajama Set

A few notes:
If you're not already an Amazon Prime member, what year are you living in??? now's the time to join! Prime membership gets you free 2-day shipping on tons of items. Not to mention free returns on several items as well as countless other perks. It's 100% WORTH IT, in my onion.

Another program/membership that I think is definitely worth your time is the Target RedCard! With a Target RedCard, you get 5% off of your Target purchases in store and online, free 2-day shipping on hundreds of thousands of items, extended return windows, and lots of other exclusives! You have the option to choose a credit card or a debit card. Personally, I have the debit card. It's linked right to my bank account and is so easy to use! And, I love the 5% discount on Target's already low prices!

Happy (last minute) shopping!

XOXO,
Abby

Casual Holiday Looks with Maurices

Monday, December 2, 2019

I LOVE dressing for the holidays, but I've found that there's a fine line between a little holiday glitz and looking like Kat and Garth.

Subtlety is usually best.

Luckily, Maurices is killing the holiday attire game. They have pieces to fit everyone's style, size, and budget. And the best part is, a ton of it is on sale today for Cyber Monday!

Keep scrolling to check out some of my favorite holiday looks from Maurices.
And don't forget to check out the Holiday Fashion tab on my blog that I'm consistently updating with more great holiday styles.

Stripes, leopard, plaid, and glitter...these are a few of my favorite things!
This reversible scarf and striped mock neck top were two pieces I knew I couldn't pass up. A black and white striped top is truly a great closet basic to have during every season. It's a perfect base for all of your layers and great for pattern mixing.

My 10-year-old self is so stoked that faux leather is BACK. I vividly remember the pair of silver pleather pants I wore on my first day of 4th grade. But, I digress...
These faux leather leggings are a "pull-on" style with an elastic waist, but they fit a bit more like regular pants. Dress them up with heels and a lace top, or keep them low-key like I did with a cable knit sweater and booties.

Lumberjack...but make it fashion.
In love with this plaid shirt/jacket! It's so perfectly oversized (in fact, I sized down to a small) and cozy. Now you don't have to steal your husband's favorite flannel anymore!
I paired it with a holiday graphic tee and duck boots for an outdoorsy look, but I can picture it worn with a band tee, faux leather leggings, and cool sneakers.

What's your favorite way to dress for the holidays?
Let me know in the comments section below.

XOXO,
Abby

Black Friday - Sales I'm Shopping

Friday, November 29, 2019
Anna Page said it best in her blog post: "I have a love/hate relationship with sharing Black Friday deals. I want to be a helpful resource but I see It so over-done that It makes me not want to share at all."

I'm going to be honest...I shop so much year round, that I've never really understood the hype around Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales. Sure, I love a good deal and plan on shopping some sales, but you will never catch me waiting outside a store at 4 am for something. (I guess I should never say never, but I really just can't see that ever happening.)

I was majorly stressing over how I was going to share every. single. sale with you all.
And with a full time job inconveniently in the way, it made it almost impossible for me to prepare a blog post days in advance like I wished I could.

Then I realized, that if you're anything like me, you're only going to be shopping at a few of your fave places anyway. You don't need a laundry list of every retailer that might be offering the slightest discount.

So, here's a roundup of the sales I'll be shopping today. They include some of my favorite retailers and deals that I really think are worth your while. Keep an eye out on my Instagram stories for more great deals that I come across throughout the weekend.

Happy Shopping!

Gift Guide for Him

Monday, November 25, 2019

Since Gift Giving is definitely one of my top love languages, I used to really pride myself on giving great gifts. However, I will be the first to admit that buying for men can be tough! I'm as feminine as they come so it's hard for me to really get into the masculine mindset when shopping for the lads in my life.

That being said, I think the things I've rounded up in this gift guide are sure to please any man. And, most importantly, they won't break the bank! Keep scrolling to check them out.

Beard Grooming Kit / External Battery / Passport Cover / 90s Party Game / House Shoes / Cocktail Kit / Rechargeable Hand Warmer / Sneaker Cleaning Kit / Loungewear Joggers / Colonel Littleton Wallet  - I shared this last year, but Greg has one and has said multiple times how much he loves it. It's available on Amazon, but if you purchase it from the Colonel Littleton website, you can have it monogrammed for a small charge! / Calvin Klein Cologne / Yeti Travel Mug / Retro Bluetooth Radio / Classic Sweatshirt

I also have an entire tab on the blog dedicated to gift ideas for men. I'll be updating it as I find good ideas throughout the season.

Wishing you all the best of luck as you shop for all the bros in your life! And, if you're still stumped on what to give your significant other/spouse specifically, remember that YOU are the best gift he could ever receive!! 😂😂

XOXO,
Abby

Gift Guide for Her

Thursday, November 14, 2019

Buying gifts for the women in my life has always been the easiest and most enjoyable for me. I just pick things that I either have and love or that I would love to receive as a gift myself. Another trick is if I see something throughout the year that reminds me of a friend or loved one, I buy it on the spot and save it for the holidays (sometimes I can't wait, thougt, and give it to them right away...gift giving is definitely one of my top love languages).

Below are some great gift ideas I've rounded up for your moms, sisters, grandmas, best girlfriends and gal pals. I also have an entire tab on the blog dedicated to gift ideas for the ladies in your life. Feel free to share it with your boyfriends and husbands. 😉

Idole Perfume / Leopard Scarf / Rose Gold Huggies / Pom Pom Beanie / Birth Year Necklace / Smashbox Lipstick / Crossbody Bag / Cocktail Shaker / Candle / Hair Crimper / Fuji Instax Camera / Glitzy Necklace / Retro Sunglasses / Urban Decay Eyeshadow Palette / Monogrammed Bistro Mug

What's one of the best gifts you've ever given or received?
Let me know in the comments section below.
Happy Holidays!
